With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Marie Carrillo (Nee Chaparro) on January 17, 2024. Born on April 11, 1945, in Oxnard, California, Alice's life was a testament to her resilience, love, and dedication to her family and community. Alice's journey began in Oxnard, where she graduated from Oxnard High School in 1963. Her career started at USN Point Mugu as a secretary, a job through which she met her husband, Pete Carrillo. Their union in 1965 brought the joy of three children. However, this happiness was touched by sorrow with the loss of their first child, Damian, shortly after his birth. Despite the challenges, Alice's strength and love for her family never wavered.

Alice's commitment to education led her to return to college, earning a BA from CSUN in 1983, a Teaching Credential in 1984, and a master's in education from CSUN in 1991. She served the Oxnard School District with dedication, first as a PTA parent, then as an Instructional Assistant at Juanita School, and finally as a teacher at Kamala and Emilie Ritchen schools, retiring in 2010 after 36 years of service. Alice was a woman of quiet strength, cherished for her reserved demeanor through which her profound love and care for her family and friends shone brightly. Her hobbies included crocheting, playing Bingo, and watching Dodgers baseball, but above all, she loved sharing meals and moments with her family. Alice was a steadfast supporter of her children's and grandchildren's sports endeavors, embodying the spirit of community involvement and support.

She leaves behind a loving family: her spouse of 58 years Pete Carrillo; daughter Anjanette Carrillo and grandson Thomas; son Andrew Carrillo, his wife Michelle Whirl-Carrillo, and grandchildren Katie and Will; siblings Joe, Irene, Frank, Tommy, Betty, Dee, and Eugene; and is preceded in death by her parents Katherine and Joe Chaparro, siblings Louise, Barbara, Gloria, and her son Damian. Alice's legacy is one of enduring love, the importance of education, and the pride she found in her family's accomplishments.

In lieu of flowers, Alice's love for teaching can be honored through a donation of your favorite book to be shared with students in the Oxnard School District, a gesture that reflects her lifelong commitment to education and her belief in the power of reading to change lives. Book donations will be collected at the rosary, funeral, and reception. Alice's journey on earth has ended, but her spirit, love, and the memories we shared will continue to inspire and guide us. We bid farewell to a remarkable woman, whose legacy will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.
