In loving memory of Aurora Castañon: beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, godmother and friend.

Aurora passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025 in Camarillo, CA, surrounded by her children and their partners after a full life of 91 years.
She was a lifelong resident of Ventura County. Born the fifth of seven siblings, Aurora grew up at Rancho Sespe near Fillmore, graduated from Fillmore High School in 1952, and earned her AA degree at Ventura College.

In 1957, she married Manuel Castañon and moved to Oxnard. They had five children and in 1969, moved to Camarillo. Manuel and Aurora were blessed with 47 years of marriage before Manuel's passing in 2004. They were longtime parishioners of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo.
After high school, Aurora worked as a medical assistant to Dr. Musgrave in Fillmore. Once she had children, Aurora was a homemaker and an excellent cook and baker. Later, she dedicated herself as a bilingual teacher's aid at Somis Elementary School. In the 1990s, she obtained her real estate license and was a successful realtor for eight years.

Her life was busy and revolved around family, friends, church and career. Aurora enjoyed crocheting, watching Los Dodgers, camping, traveling and showering her grandchildren with love, kindness and joy. Aurora will be remembered for her friendly personality, quick wit, love of music and skill at card games. She is forever in our hearts and memories and will be greatly missed.

Aurora was preceded in death by her parents Cornelio and Trinidad Renteria, husband Manuel, brother Richard, sisters Rosalina, Connie, Amy, and Ramona and her son-in-law Patrick.

Aurora is survived by her five children: David (Carol), John (Lynn), Trish (Randy), Michelle (Gerry), and Laurie, and sister Mary Ann Mendoza, and Ruben Preciado (brother-in-law). She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Ben (Tali), Gabriel M., Matthew, Gabriel J., Abbey and Tess, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Aurora's caregiver, Cristy, for her grace and compassion. We also thank the Buena Vista Hospice team, the UCLA Alzheimer's team, and the AlmaVia Camarillo staff.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Aurora's honor to the Alzheimer's Association or the Buena Vista Hospice Butterfly Foundation.
