Santa Paula

Obituary

Benjamin Alvarez Osuna peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 11, 2026 surrounded by his two daughters while watching the Dodger game.

He was born on June 25, 1936 in Ventura to Jesus and Maria Osuna. He married his high school sweetheart, Anita Sigala in 1956. Ben attended Santa Paula elementary schools and graduated with the Santa Paula Union high school class of '54.

He was very active on the SPUHS baseball, basketball, and football teams. After graduating high school he was scouted by the then Milwaukee Braves. After completing the softball World Series in Clearwater Florida, he decided to settle down with his sweetheart, Anita and have a family. He continued playing baseball and basketball in citywide and County leagues and also continued traveling out of county and state to play on various other baseball leagues.

He was an avid Dodger and Laker fan, and had a sweet tooth that wouldn't quit.

Ben also served as a reserve police officer for the City of Santa Paula in the early '60s. He served the Lord Jesus Christ his entire life and was active at various times on  church councils and working with the youth.

He worked for the State Department of Agriculture and 25 years for the Ventura Unified School District.

He attended Harvard school and in his spare time was a stand up comedian. (Well, Isbell was on Harvard- lol)

Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Anita. Parents - Jesus and Maria Osuna; brothers Robert Arias, Henry, Fred, Larry, Rudy Osuna. Sisters Anita Reyes and Marina Urias. One surviving brother, Frank Osuna.

Ben is also survived by his daughters, Theresa Osuna (Mike) Barnum, Carla Osuna Ramirez. Grandchildren: Kim (Erik) Kirk, Micael Barnum Jr., Jonathan Ramirez (Lupe), great-grandchildren: Emily Kirk, Aliza and Jonathan Ramirez, Jr.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Doctor Gary Deutsch, VCMC ICU doctors, nurses, staff, and Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses. Robert Rey Jr. Garcia and staff for your compassionate care. Also, Pastor Ruy Mizuki of El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church for your unselfish time and visit with Dad. And let's not forget the Santa Paula Union High School class of '54, Class Reunion Committee.

"And be sure of this: I am with you always even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:20
