Cheryl "CJ" Starling
January 4, 1942 – October 18, 2025

Cheryl "CJ" Starling lived her life with a fierce spirit, quick wit, and boundless love for animals. Known for her free spirit, booming laugh, and deeply compassionate nature, she carried unbridled joy wherever she went. CJ moved through the world with radiant enthusiasm and gusto—a seriousness of delight that came from truly seeing and savoring life.
Ever active and independent, CJ remained strong and fit even in her later years—at barely 110 pounds she could still be seen bounding up the stairs of her two-story apartment, arms full of grocery bags and laughter.
Above all else, CJ loved animals. She rescued and cared for countless creatures over the years and is now reunited with her beloved dog, Dharma. In her final year she found comfort in caring for her neighbor's dog, Hunny, whose sweet companionship brought her daily joy.
After experiencing a stroke in July 2024, CJ was able to return home that October, where she spent her final year surrounded by friends, neighbors, and loving care—living with the same humor, independence, and courage as ever.
CJ is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Laureen Starkenberg, and her beloved nephew and niece, Neil Starkenberg and Lauren Jones, as well as a wide circle of chosen family, church members, friends, and neighbors who will remember her laughter, empathy, and uncontainable love for life.
Her light continues in every story, every shared laugh, and every creature treated with kindness
