Exie Lee
Riley
Apr 9, 1954 — May 22, 2026
On May 22, 2026, Exie Lee Jacobs Riley, a lifelong resident of Oxnard, California, peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 9, 1954, to Ada Mae Jacobs and Ira Jacobs, Sr., Exie was raised in the La Colonia community and remained deeply connected to Oxnard throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Ernestine "Mama Gold" King, and numerous beloved siblings.
Exie leaves behind her seven daughters: Ernestine Chappell, Lula Dixon (Daney), Danisha Riley, Gwendolyn Kewulezi (Placid), Alexandria Riley, Tiffany Bowe (Yuri), and Andrea Obidiaso (Austin); bonus daughter Lakietha McNinch; 19 grandchildren; her siblings Uneeda McCowan, Sylvester Jacobs (Patricia), and Rev. Thomas Jacobs; brother-in-law Vernon "VJ" Nickleberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A woman of strong faith, Exie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. She attended local Oxnard schools and was an accomplished athlete in track and field.
Exie's passion for cosmetology was inspired by her stepmother, Mama Gold, who taught her the art of hairstyling. She later earned her cosmetology degree and built a life defined by hard work and service. Her career included employment at Point Mugu Naval Base, the City of Oxnard, United Blood Services, and operating both a successful cleaning business and a licensed residential care facility for individuals with developmental disabilities.
She was also a beloved mentor and leader of the Colonnades, the renowned all-girl marching and drill team of La Colonia, helping guide and inspire generations of young women throughout Ventura County.
Exie will be remembered for her faith, strength, generosity, and unwavering love for family and community. Her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
