Hector M.
Alvarez
Apr 5, 1946 — Apr 21, 2026
Fillmore
Héctor Mendoza Alvarez was born on April 5, 1946, in Puruándiro, Michoacán, Mexico. He spent his early childhood in the small town of Batuecas, Michoacán, where he was raised and found the footing that would become bedrock of his life and legacy.
At the age of 14, Héctor began working to help support himself and his family, traveling to Ventura County, where he worked in the agricultural fields harvesting fruit and eventually built a long and steady career as a dedicated ranch hand at Shiells Ranch, where he worked for over 20 years prior to retirement.
From a young age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic, determination, and resilience that would define the rest of his life.
Héctor was the beloved son of Feliza Mendoza and Jose Alvarez. He was one of a large family, growing up alongside his siblings Joaquin, Francisco, Abel, Alfredo, Raul, Rosalina, Adela, Maria Estela, and Ester. Hector is preceded in death by his brothers Abel, Alfredo, Raul, and his sister Ester.
On December 10, 1971, Héctor married the love of his life, Maria Perez, in Fillmore, California. Together they built a life rooted in love, dedication, and family. He was a proud father to his three sons, Hector, Fernando, and Luis.
Héctor's legacy continues through his grandchildren Vicente, Santiago, Sabrina, Gabriela, Fernando, Saul, Delilah, and Noah, as well as his great-grandchild, Oziris, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Despite limited formal education, Héctor carried a lifelong commitment to hard work and providing for his family. Through discipline, sacrifice, and careful stewardship, Héctor achieved something he was deeply proud of—living within his means and providing for his family without debt. His ability to manage on a modest income and still provide a stable and secure life stands as a testament to his strength and character.
Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was the example he set for his sons. Through his actions, he taught them the value of hard work, responsibility, and financial discipline, helping guide them toward building their own lives and achieving their own versions of the American Dream.
Héctor was a man full of life, joy, and strength. He loved to dance and sing, especially on mornings when the day felt just right. Music was always close to his heart, particularly tambora and banda, which brought out his spirit and filled his home with energy. Some of his happiest moments were spent gathered with his siblings, where laughter, dancing, and singing came naturally and freely.
He enjoyed sharing good times with family, often with a drink in hand, taking every opportunity to celebrate life and the people around him. He had a true gift for working with his hands—whether it was tending to his large vegetable garden, where he could grow just about anything, or demonstrating his remarkable strength, like cutting wood cleanly with a single, powerful swing.
Héctor also loved watching bull riding, finding humor and excitement in the action, especially when riders were thrown from the bull. He never missed a chance to watch boxing, always eager for a good fight. Strong and resolute, he carried that same toughness and spirit throughout his life, remaining steadfast until his very last breath.
Like every good Mexican corrido, it must have an end—and so his song of hard work, perseverance, and a life filled with both challenges and joyful moments has come to its close. His story, however, will continue to live on through the family he built, the values he instilled, and the memories that will be carried forward for generations.
