James "Tom" Barker We are sad to announce the passing of James "Tom" Barker. He resided in Ventura, California. He entered heavens gates and into the arms of Our Lord at age 87 on 1/25/24. Tom passed peacefully, cared for and surrounded by his loved ones after a valiant battle with bone cancer.

Born in Koshkonong Missouri October 12, 1936. Tom moved to Santa Paula in December of 1944. As a young man he served in the Army, stationed in Germany. When he returned to Santa Paula he began working for Max Rudolph which led to a career with Texaco. He was a gas plant operator, supervisor, and mechanic and until his retirement. Tom was an outstanding horseman; spending his free time at roping arenas, various equestrian centers, and rodeos. Training horses and exploring the mountains and valleys of California on horseback with his daughter.

After retiring from Texaco, he and Catherine enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives out of state. He spent much quality time with his grandchildren. He loved to let children run, explore, and grow. Learning about wildlife, teaching them how to work on cars and engines, and many aspects of horticulture. He loved planting a vegetable garden each and every year, including this past summer. He found great joy in sharing his bounty with his neighbors.

Most of all Tom enjoyed making people laugh, in any situation. His witty comments and humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Survived by his wife Catherine Barker, children Sharon (Paul) Tubbs, Kathleen Sealy, Steve (Joann) Barker, and his sister Ann Skinner. He is preceded in death by stepson, Dennis Coker, and three siblings Charles Barker, Elamuel "Junior" Barker and sister Betty Beaver.

He is also survived by his grandchildren which he absolutely adored and took great pride in, always telling stories and sharing memories of their youth; Christopher (Jennifer) Coker, Deseree (Joshua) Coddington, Dawn Sealy, Tom (Erin) Barker, Brian Barker, Christopher Barker, Michael Barker, Victor (Nicole) Wolfe, James (Brenda) Burgett, Calvin (Jamie) Burgett, Nianna (Gerry) Rodriguez, Patrick Tubbs and Brenna Tubbs. He has 23 great and great-great grandchildren.
