It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, John Sunia, on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the age of 55. He passed peacefully at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He left this world peacefully with his family by his side.

John was born on April 16, 1970, on the Naval Base of Rota, Spain, a son to Tuiai and Apofua Sunia.

John dedicated 26 years of service to law enforcement, working with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Oxnard Police Department, and the Ventura County District Attorney's Office. He was deeply committed to his community and took great pride in serving others. In his free time, John enjoyed playing softball, camping with friends, and spending cherished moments with his family, especially his grandson.

John will be remembered for his laughter, humor, perseverance, and passion for life. His spirit and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His remarkable life will forever be an inspiration and true testament of an indomitable spirit enthused with laughter and love.

John is preceded in death by his mother, Apofua.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; his children, Breana, Joey, and Jordan; his cherished grandson, Coazt; his father Tuiai; his brother, Andy; and his sister, Faana.

A memorial service celebrating John's exceptional life will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 12:30pm, at Calvary Chapel of Oxnard, 2001 Eastman Avenue, Oxnard, CA 93030.

A reception will follow at 3:30pm at McCormick Home Ranch, 2034 East 5th Street, Camarillo, CA 93012. All who knew and loved John are warmly invited to attend and honor his memory.
