Joseph Winston
Riley
Jan 11, 1952 — Aug 31, 2026
Joseph Winston Riley Jr., age 74, of Oxnard, CA, gained his wings on August 31, 2026, at St. John's Hospital.
Joseph was born on January 11, 1952, in Colón, Panama, to the union of Gwendolyne and Joseph Winston Riley Sr. He grew up in Panama City, where he attended St. Joseph Catholic School.
Joseph began his working years in Panama as a clerk at Balboa Credit Union. He entered his first union, and welcomed his first son, Joseph Winston Riley III, AKA Josesito, in 1978. He would later form a union with his current wife, Tilcia Hermelinda Riley, and immigrate to the United States with the hope of providing a better life for their family. In 1986, He became a father again, to Dion Winston Riley, and a little over a year later, to his daughter, Chantel Nachira Riley. They would first spend a brief time in New York before making Oxnard, California their permanent home. Joseph was a man of many talents, and throughout the years, he held many careers, including security guard, post office worker, certified nursing assistant, and, finally, a night-shift stocker for Walmart.
No matter the job, Joseph was always known for his strong work ethic and taking pride in his appearance.
Joseph possessed a lifelong love of sports and could often be found watching soccer, boxing, basketball, and football. He especially enjoyed cheering for his favorite teams The Chicago Bulls and The Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved to dance and listen to Reggae and Salsa music, as well as singing to his own tune and playing the bongos whenever he could get his hands on them.
One of Joseph's special talents was drawing. He had an incredible ability to look at a character and recreate it freehand. He would spend his free hours drawing his children's favorite characters from movies and TV shows with markers on posterboards to decorate their rooms. It was a gift that reflected both his creativity and his attention to detail.
