Obituary

Juliette Felisa Marquez crossed peacefully beyond the veil on September 9, 2026, leaving her light, love, and magic with everyone whose life she touched.

Juliette was born on February 28, 1962, to Juliette Lopez and Herman “Rey” Lopez. She was their third child, second daughter, and the twin sister of Annette Engelhart.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alexandrio ‘Wally’ Marquez, who passed away in April 2003; her sister, Lucinda Kizer, who passed away in November 2011; her mother, Juliette Lopez, who passed away in January 2021; and her father, Herman “Rey” Lopez, who passed away in January 2022.

Juliette is survived by her three sons: Alex Marquez; Joshua Marquez and his wife, Jessica, and their sons, Brandon and Bennett ‘Benny’; and Jett Marquez-Lawley and his wife, Erin. She also leaves behind her beloved puppers, Nola Chola and Charley Bucket, who brought her so much comfort and joy.

She is also survived by her twin sister, Annette Engelhart; Annette’s husband, Nicolaas, and their son, Nicolaas Jr.; her brother, Rey Lopez, his wife, Stacey, and their children, Elizabeth, Alexandra, and John Reynold, Lucinda’s daughters April and her husband Samford Sam and their children, Owen, Oliver, August, and Caroline; and Ashley Running, her husband, Kyle, and their daughter, Aurora; as well as her many nieces, nephews, great-niece, and great-nephews.

Known lovingly as Mama Ju, Ju Ju, Tía Ju Ju, Gammie or simply Ju, Juliette grew up in Santa Paula. Her education took her from Isbell Middle School to Ventura, where she graduated from Saint Bonaventure High School in 1980, and earned her Associates Degree of Business from Ventura College in 1982. Juliette later returned to Santa Paula before eventually settling in Fillmore, the community she called home.

In 1986, Juliette married her high school sweetheart, Wally Marquez. Together, they built a life and raised their three sons until Wally’s passing in 2003.

Ju Ju embodied what it means to survive, persevere, and continue moving forward. After losing her husband, she raised their three sons with extraordinary courage and determination. That remarkable achievement—and the fierce love behind it—should never go unnoticed. Her strength gave her sons the confidence to believe that even the hardest times do not last forever.

Over the years, Juliette endured the loss of her husband, her sister, and both of her parents. Still, she continued moving through life with strength, generosity, and an open heart. She carried those she had lost with her while continuing to offer love and support to the family still gathered around her.

Gammie delighted in spending time with her grandsons, Brandon and Benny. Whether they were playing soccer or baseball, gardening, or simply walking around the yard, she was always ready to join them. With her great-niece and great-nephews, she showed endless gentleness and patience. She was generous with her time, quick to lend a hand, and always willing to help anyone who would accept it.

Juliette’s life was marked by resilience, kindness, playfulness, and fierce devotion to her family. Though she has passed beyond the veil, her magic remains—in the strength she gave her sons, the joy she shared with the children she adored, and the love she planted in every life she touched.

She will be carried forward in their stories, their laughter, the places she called home, and every turning of the seasons.
