It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Lerma, at the age of 95 on June 15, 2024, at her home in Oxnard. Known affectionately as Mama Honey, Maria was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose kindness, warmth, and steadfast spirit touched many lives. She will be deeply missed.

Born on June 8, 1929, Mexico, to Jesus Ferrales and Genoveva Ferrales, Maria married Horacio Lerma in 1954, and they settled in the Los Angeles area. In 1963, Maria and Horacio moved to Oxnard, where they became lifelong residents.

Despite arriving in the U.S. with a small child, and unfamiliar with the language and culture, Maria persevered to create a loving home while Horacio worked in factories and construction to support the family. They became active members of the Catholic church community, where Maria instilled strong family values.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Horacio Lerma. She is survived by her brother, Jesus Ferrales; her children, Xavier (Cynthia) Lerma, Hilda (Javier) Solis, and Rudy Lerma; grandchildren Michael (Mariana) Solis, Alex (Brittany) Solis, Adrian (Diana) Solis, Vanessa (Zachary) Lerma Dickenson, Cristina Lerma McGuirk and Daniel (Gannon) Lerma-Hill; and seven great-grandchildren, who will always remember the love she brought into their lives.
