Rachel Reyes Aguilar, born and raised in Santa Paula, spent her lifetime in the town she loved, where her roots ran deep and her heart was always at home. She was a woman of immense kindness and strength, always giving of herself to care for her family, her work, and her community in ways that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Rachel was a hardworking "busy bee" with a strong work ethic who believed in the value of dedication and discipline, qualities she passed along to her loved ones. She began her working life at the citrus packing plant in Santa Paula, then worked for many years as a nurse's aide at Santa Paula Hospital, where she touched countless lives with her care and compassion. After retiring, she continued her services to others as a loving caregiver.

Rachel loved to help people. When her son (John Aguilar) opened his salon, Celebs, in Santa Paula, she quickly became more than just a client – she was also the salon's first receptionist! Rachel was a constant supporter of her "mijos" (John and Kenny Suber) at the salon, even helping with the fashion shows at the Glen Tavern. When the salon relocated from Main Street in Santa Paula to Main Street in Ventura, Rachel, who continued driving until she was 89, remained a treasured part of Celeb's as the 'towel attendant/foil cutter.' If you ever had a weave or highlights, chances are Rachel cut those foils! Clients truly cherished her, not only for her warm heart and great conversation, but also for her homemade desserts, especially her signature pineapple upside-down and red velvet cakes, which always added a little extra sweetness to their day.

Rachel was a woman of faith and, along with praying the rosary daily and going to church, she was always there to pray with or for anyone in need. The simple joys of life meant everything to her. Her loving nature brought happiness to those around her, offering comfort through her delicious home cooking or baked goods, crocheted blankets (she even made one for Bubba) and hats, and handmade bibs for her great-nephew, Roman. Her caring presence made everyone feel loved.

Rachel was always there for, and protective of, her loved ones. Family came first, and that devotion never wavered. Nothing made her happier than being with family, especially her sisters. They were inseparable ('thick as thieves') and would regularly visit with each other, reminiscing or "bragging" about their children's latest accomplishments, and would often go to Chapala's for lunch after church. Other than her dearest childhood friend, Ofelia Martines, who was like a sister, Rachel kept her circle small and when asked about making friends often said: "I don't need friends, I have my sisters!"

Rachel's honesty was one of her defining traits. She was blunt, opinionated, and unafraid to speak her mind—but always with love. She had a way of letting you know exactly where she stood, and you always knew it came from a place of deep care. She was down-to-

earth, practical, and grounded, but she had a lightness about her that made everything feel just a little bit brighter.

Her playful spirit was never far behind, and when that twinkle appeared in her eye, you knew she was up to something mischievous. Rachel's sense of humor and infectious laugh could always lift your spirits and bring a smile to your face, even on the toughest days.

A lifelong Dodger fan, Rachel could talk baseball with the best of them. Her knowledge of the Dodgers' history and stats was impressive, and she could hold her own in any conversation about the game, often surprising even the most avid sports enthusiasts.

Rachel was no stranger to the casino, and if you ever heard her say, "I want to go to Chu," it was time for a trip to Chumash (her "Happy Place"), where she had a knack for hitting the slots with a bit of luck on her side! Her love for life extended to the simple joys, like gathering with family, enjoying strawberry treats (milkshakes were a favorite), serving as the pitching coach for the Santa Paula Girls' Bobby Sox team, eating ribs at BJ's Restaurant, her favorite pastime of attending dances at the Santa Paula KC Hall with her sisters, baking persimmon cookies for her nieces and nephews, savoring a glass of sweet tea, leisurely window shopping at Nordstrom Rack or the shops at the outlet mall (always careful to check every price tag), and she loved chatting over a cup of coffee with LOTS of sugar!

Above all, Rachel was a comfort to people. Whether by listening to or engaging in conversation with you, often with a gentle touch of her hand or a warm hug, she had a way of making you feel seen, loved, and cared for. Her authenticity and deep love for others shone through in everything she did, making everyone around her feel special and valued.

Rachel passed peacefully, on March 24, at age 93. Her legacy is one of love, family, faith, hard work, and a reminder to cherish the simple things in life. We will miss her deeply. Her life was a gift, and the memories she leaves behind will continue to inspire us all to live with love, discipline, laughter, intent, and a sense of devotion to the people who matter most.

Rachel is survived by her son, Ismael Aguilar (spouse Betty Aguilar) and her son, John Aguilar; her sister, Alice; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family, including Kenny Surber ("Mijo") and all the hearts she touched with her presence at Celebs.

Rachel is now joyfully reunited with her beloved parents, Anna and Joe Reyes; her sisters, Ruby (and niece, Becky Soriano), Sally, and Anna; her brother, John; her daughter, Anita (Annie) Sanchez; her adored grandson, Joey Aguilar; her lifelong companion, Alfred Barrios; and the only pet she ever truly loved, her dog, Kristy.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Rachel's devoted caregivers, Bonnie Flores, and her grandson, Joey Aguilar, and his wife Rosie. Their love, care, and constant support provided Rachel with comfort and peace during her final years.
