Raymundo de la Torre, of Oxnard, California, was a proud United States Air Force retiree, husband, father and friend we were lucky enough to have on earth for 87 wonderful years. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his immediate family on Sunday 12/17/2023 after a brave battle with cancer.

He was born in Riverside, California in 1936 to Reyes and Maria de la Torre, who provided a special and memorable childhood. He shared fond memories of his parents, siblings, extended family and childhood dog. Raymundo attended Poly High School and was a member of the ROTC before joining the United States Air Force. He proudly served for 20 years retiring 11/30/1976.

Raymundo met the love of his life, Amparo de la Torre, in 1967 through a mutual friend. She was visiting California from her country Belize. They were soon engaged and corresponded for the year leading up to their wedding. They were married on 07/25/1968 sharing 55 beautiful years of marriage.

He has four daughters, Deborah Brawley, Jeannie Myer, Irene Zaragoza (Joey) and Raquel Shicora (John). He was good provider and very supportive of each daughter. They all have priceless memories and were blessed to have him as long as they did.

Raymundo has 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, with great grand #24 on the way.

He was beloved by his friends. He had a fun personality and could make anyone laugh.

After retiring from the USAF, he entered into civilian work focusing on aviation. He proudly worked many years for Mexicana airlines as a maintenance manager. This afforded him the opportunity to take his family on memorable vacations in Mexico. After retiring from the airline, he went to work for the local paper mill for about 10 years. He made friends at each job who will miss him.

Raymundo was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for 20 plus years. He enjoyed the camaraderie of being a member. He was a member of the Air Force Sargent's Association for 30 years. He participated in the POW ceremony and events they organized. He was a long-time parish member at Mary Star of the Sea Church and will be missed by the congregation. He volunteered with his wife, Amparo, at their church's chapter of St. Vincent de Paul. During the pandemic, they went every day and handed out food to those in need.

Raymundo will always be remembered for his humor and loyalty to his friends and family. We'll always remember hearing him talk about his years in the service. He reflected fondly about the years he was stationed in Panama and other Latin American countries. He taught aircraft mechanic school and impacted numerous student service men while enlisted. We couldn't have asked for a better parent, grandparent and great grandparent and will miss Raymundo every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Raymundo was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
